Teen Patti Dealer Rules: How Cards Are Distributed

Classic Teen Patti uses one standard 52‑card deck, **no jokers** in the base version.

Basic Dealer Setup Before the Deal

Classic Teen Patti uses one standard 52‑card deck, **no jokers** in the base version. The game works best with 3–6 players, though some home tables allow up to 7.
Before any cards are handed out:
1. All players place the agreed boot (ante) into the central pot. No boot, no deal.
2. A dealer is selected. The dealer position rotates **clockwise after every complete hand**. This rotation ensures fairness so the same player does not keep dealing round after round.
3. The dealer shuffles the deck thoroughly. After shuffling, the deck is usually offered to any other player for a cut. The cut splits the deck into two piles; the dealer places the bottom pile on top.
4. After the cut, no extra shuffling is allowed.

Step-by-Step Card Distribution Rule

The dealer distributes cards **one at a time, clockwise**, starting with the player sitting immediately to the dealer’s left. Every player receives exactly three cards, and all cards are dealt face down. No cards are exposed during the deal.
- First card: Left of dealer
- Second card: Next player clockwise
- Continue looping around the table until every player holds three hidden cards.
- The dealer also receives their own three cards in the same rotation.

The betting action starts with that same first player (the one left of the dealer), moving clockwise around the table. Players can choose to stay blind (not look at their cards) or seen (view their cards) once the deal finishes.

Worked Dealing Example

Players: Dealer (D), Player A, Player B, Player C (clockwise order; A is left of Dealer).
1. All four players put boot into the pot. Dealer shuffles, deck is cut by Player B.
2. Dealer begins dealing one card at a time in this repeating order: A → B → C → D.
3. First round: A gets card 1, B gets card 1, C gets card 1, D gets card 1.
4. Second round: A gets card 2, B gets card 2, C gets card 2, D gets card 2.
5. Third round: A gets card 3, B gets card 3, C gets card 3, D gets card 3.
6. Every player now has three face‑down cards. The deal ends.
7. Player A opens the betting round.

Common Situations & Standard Rulings

### Situation 1: Dealer exposes a card while dealing
If a card flips face up by accident during distribution: the card stays with that player, and the deal continues. That player knows one of their cards in advance. This is a penalty for the dealer’s error, and the hand stands. If multiple cards are exposed, many home tables rule a misdeal and reshuffle.

### Situation 2: Dealer gives the wrong number of cards
If one player gets 2 cards and another gets 4 before anyone looks at their cards or starts betting: this is a misdeal. The cards are collected back, the same dealer reshuffles, the deck is cut again, and a fresh deal starts.
If the mistake is spotted after betting has already begun, most casual groups finish the hand with adjusted house penalties, while strict rule sets declare it void.

### Situation 3: Dealer starts dealing to the wrong player
If the dealer begins to their right instead of left and the error is caught before the full three cards are passed out: stop immediately, collect the cards, and redeal correctly. If all cards have been dealt and betting has started, many home tables let the hand run out by agreement.

### Situation 4: Dealer skips a player during the deal
If the dealer misses one player and keeps handing out cards: stop, gather all cards, reshuffle, and restart the deal. Skipping a player creates an uneven hand count and unfair information.

### Situation 5: Online Teen Patti dealer
In apps like Teen Patti Gold, the software acts as the automatic dealer. The same distribution rules apply: three cards face down, clockwise sequence. The dealer button still rotates to show who would be the live dealer in a physical game. The app cannot make manual dealing errors.

### Situation 6: Variant decks with jokers
Some fun home variants use jokers as wild cards. If jokers are added, they are mixed in the deck before shuffling. The dealer still deals three cards per player, but confirm wild rules before starting. Classic standard Teen Patti excludes jokers.

Common Beginner Mistakes

1. Dealing all three cards to one player at once instead of one by one. Standard practice is one card per loop.
2. Dealing counter-clockwise or starting from the dealer’s right.
3. Letting players peek at their cards before the deal is fully finished.
4. Forgetting dealer rotation and keeping the same dealer for multiple hands.
5. Skipping the cut step after shuffling.
6. Exposing cards on purpose during the deal to signal partners (this is cheating).

Quick Recap Checklist

1. Collect boot (ante) from all players before shuffling.
2. Dealer shuffles, offers deck for a cut.
3. Deal one card at a time clockwise, starting left of dealer.
4. Each player gets exactly three cards, all face down.
5. Dealer also receives three cards in the rotation.
6. Betting starts with the player left of dealer.
7. Dealer button rotates clockwise after each hand.
8. Uneven card count or major exposed cards = misdeal and redeal.
